How I became a Microsoft Learn Student Ambassador (MLSA) | How to apply for MLSA?
After I become a Microsoft Learn Student ambassador (MLSA), I got a couple of questions from individuals who showed interest in becoming Microsoft Learn student Ambassadors on how to they could go about it.
I wrote this article to not only answer that question but to encourage every student out there to take this opportunity!
What is Microsoft Learn Students Ambassadors Program?
The MLSA program is a global program led by Microsoft to help build technical skills of students and develop knowledge in the use of Microsoft technologies. It is a program that brings students from all over the world who have passion for technology.
As a student Ambassador, you get to learn trending technologies and also help your peers and community to learn same while getting utmost support from the MLSA team in hosting workshops, webinars, hackathons etc. You also get an opportunity to implement this technology in solving real world problems.

The Three Milestones you can achieve (benefits)
There are 3 milestones you can achieve throughout the program alpha, beta, and gold with gold being offered to exceptional contributors only.
Alpha: To attain this milestone, you have to complete a Microsoft Learn path and Azure credits of $150 per month will be unlocked with your Visual Studio Enterprise subscription. You will also receive LinkedIn Learning Subscription, a free domain name and a certificate voucher.
Beta: To reach the Beta milestone, you have to host an event in your community and complete the Technical on-boarding task. As a Beta MLSA, you will receive the Swag kit from Microsoft and a free certification exam among other benefits.
Gold: Student Ambassadors who go beyond and above their local communities, making impact through service, and have been active participant in the MLSA program will get the Gold badge. Here, access to special events, Gold MLSA swag kit, and invitation to become a Microsoft Most Valuable professional is given.
Eligibility:
As listed on the official website, all applying students must:
- Be at least 16 years old at the time of submission.
2. Be enrolled full-time in an accredited academic institution (e.g. college, University).
3. Have valid identification.
When to apply?
You can apply anytime as applications are open throughout the year and are reviewed quarterly. Even if your previous application is rejected, you can always reapply.
How to Apply
- To apply, visit the MLSA official website https://studentambassadors.microsoft.com/en-US Click on “Apply Now” and sign up.
- The application form begins with the “Personal Info’ section. Fill in basic information like name, gender, contact email etc. and click on next.
- Proceed to fill in the “Academic Institution information”. Enter your School’s details. Click on next
- Next is the “Application Questions” sections, which is the major part of the application process.
You want to take your time to answer the questions carefully and honestly. Please, note that one video MUST be submitted (under 2 minutes). Upload the video) on YouTube or Google drive and provide the URL to the video.
- Go on to fill “Social Media” section which includes URLs to your social profiles, blogs etc. It is optional but recommended. Fill in as many fields as you can.
- Finally, the “Additional Information” section. You have to tell which technologies interest you by either selecting from the listed technology or typing in the text-area provided.
After filling everything, go ahead and submit!
One thing is, you can always edit your application until the deadline date which you learn about while filling the application.
